Introducing The New Cyber-Shot T90
Shooting Functions
12.1 effective megapixels Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens
12.1 effective megapixels, 4x optical zoom, and cutting-edge functionality in an ultra-slim body

The DSC-T NEW2 features a 1/2.3-type Super HAD CCD with 12.1 effective megapixels, an original Sony development. The high resolution and precise reproduction of this CCD provide rich gradations that are clearly expressed when printed at large-format stretched A3 size. A retractable Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens enables close-up shooting and zooming during video photography up to 1cm from the subject in Magnifying Glass mode, and the optical 4x telescopic range offers superior visual acuity for a compact camera.

High speed, high-quality BIONZ imaging processor

Equipped with Sony’s BIONZ imaging processor, the T NEW2 delivers high-resolution images and fast performance. In addition to a higher maximum ISO and improved noise reduction when shooting at high ISO settings, both speed and precision have been increased for AF, AE, AWB (3A), Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO), colour reproduction and more. The end result is higher quality images.

Dynamic Range Optimizer
Dynamic Range Optimizer

The Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) standard mode — made possible by the BIONZ imaging processor — employs a sophisticated image analysis algorithm originally developed by Sony to automatically determine the best exposure and contrast settings for optimal dynamic range in almost any shooting environment. In this way, DRO gives images a natural look with clearer details that match what you see with your naked eye. This is especially effective when shooting backlit portraits or any scene with dramatic contrast between background and foreground lighting. Available settings are Off, DRO standard, and DRO plus* (for best results).

* Processing speed of [DRO plus] is drastically shortened from this model.
* Only [ISO AUTO] or values from [ISO 80] to [ISO 800] can be set for the ISO value when [DRO plus] is set.

Optical SteadyShot ISO 3200 High Sensitivity
Double “Anti-blur” Solution: “Optical SteadyShot” and ISO 3200 high sensitivity

Combining the benefits of “Optical SteadyShot” optical image stabiliser with an improved High Sensitivity mode, Sony’s Double “Anti-blur” Solution helps reduce camera shake blur for telephoto shots. A built-in gyro sensor in “Optical SteadyShot” detects camera shake and automatically activates a shift lens unit to compensate for it. High Sensitivity mode has an extended ISO of 3200 to allow faster shutter speeds, making it especially useful for eliminating subject blur when shooting indoors or at twilight. Additionally, Sony’s original Clear RAW Noise Reduction algorithm suppresses noise, a typical drawback of shooting at the higher end of the ISO scale, to deliver clean, high-resolution images. The end results are extremely natural looking photos of just about any subject or scene.

Easy-to-operate 3.0-type Clear Photo LCD plus with Wide and Touch Screen

Before shooting, users can simply touch the area they want focused and the camera will immediately adjust the focus accordingly (Touch It shooting). For example, touching a subject’s face on the screen activates Face Detection to ensure clear reproduction of that subject. If the subject is not a person, touching the screen activates AF Frame. The quick and accurate focusing according to fingertip command lets users achieve more personalised results. When playing back images for viewing, pressing the Touch Screen (Check Here function) activates image zooming for a closer look at recorded details. The icon display can be switched off to enable unobstructed viewing of details over the entire screen while still allowing the user to show the previous or next image by sliding a finger left or right on the screen.

720p HD Movie

The T NEW2 is the first T Series Cyber-shot to offer 720p HD movie shooting* — a remarkable achievement. Now a standard compact camera can film HD movies at 30 fps and 1280 x 720 pixel resolution as if grabbing a quick snapshot. The T NEW2 employs the high-quality, high-compression MPEG-4 format (MPEG4 Visual codec) to store up to 60 minutes** of movie action on a single 4 GB Memory Stick. The camera can be connected with an HDTV such as BRAVIA for stunning large-screen home movie viewing enjoyment. In addition, users can easily share movies with family members and friends by uploading them to Internet sharing services from a PC. Bundled Picture Motion Browser software can manage both photos and movies and features a convenient highlight index function that lets users select favourite scenes and use them as thumbnails for easy searching and playback. Users simply click on a thumbnail to play the associated movie or upload it to the Internet***. The still and movie modes are selected with the press of a button on top of the camera. A quick glance at the LED confirms which mode is mode is in operation. The modes can be switched at any time with après of your thumb: users can even switch instantly to the still mode while recording a movie and vice versa. The remarkable dual-function T NEW2 even allows simultaneous photo and movie shooting. A built-in stereo microphone also delivers crisp, clear audio recordings that convey all the quality and excitement of the original during playback.

* 1280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps
** Approximate. Only when recording movies in the 720 Fine mode (high quality). Maximum recording time for one movie file is approximately 29 minutes.
*** When uploading movies to sharing services, users can convert them to SD image quality with PMB.

Face Detection
Improved Face Detection technology for children and adults

Sony’s Face Detection technology detects faces in a scene and adjusts focus, exposure and white balance accordingly. It is renowned for high performance features such as quick subject tracking, excellent skin-colour. With improved Face Detection technology, the DSC-T NEW2 can now automatically distinguish between children and adults. Setting the camera to either type (children or adults) provides beautiful, accurate images. Face Motion Detection Newly added Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and accelerates the shutter speed when facial movement is detected. This improves the quality of portraits by reducing blur in the subject’s face. Note: Effective in Intelligent Auto mode and Easy shooting mode.

Smile Shutter
Enhanced Smile Shutter

Sony’s Smile Shutter, which automatically detects and captures smiling faces, is now more useful. Smiling portraits also look better than ever because Smile Shutter can now be used in tandem with Intelligent Scene Recognition, which automatically determines the optimal settings for difficult shooting conditions. As before, Smile Shutter lets users select the degree of Smile Detection Sensitivity as well as the adult or child priority setting to automatically shoot when a child or adult smiles.

Easier Smile Shutter operation

Overall operation has been simplified to enhance the user experience. Smile Shutter, for example, can be activated by simply touching an icon on the screen. With the Intelligent Auto mode active, the Smile Shutter’s smile detection function is complemented by the image enhancement of Intelligent Scene Recognition. This is the first Cyber-shot to feature this capability. In backlit environments, for example, Intelligent Scene Recognition can now employ flash and backlight compensation during Smile Shutter usage to capture faces more clearly.

Intelligent Auto mode
Intelligent Auto mode

Auto shooting mode has been replaced with the new Intelligent Auto mode, which is selectable via touching an icon on the screen. When this mode is active, the camera automatically determines the optimal settings for each scene by using the Intelligent Scene Recognition. So, crisp images can be captured without making troublesome setting adjustments. Note: Advanced mode (Intelligent Scene Recognition) is selectable from the MENU.

Intelligent Scene Recognition
[Intelligent Scene Recognition]

Intelligent Scene Recognition greatly simplifies shooting by automatically determining the optimum settings for difficult filming conditions such as dark and backlit environments. There are eight settings available; Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a tripod, Portrait, Landscape and Macro. An icon appears on the screen to clearly indicate which setting is being used. Intelligent Scene Recognition provides Auto and Advanced modes. The Auto mode takes a single shot with optimised automatic settings, while the Advanced mode takes two shots at different settings, allowing the user to select the preferred shot. This selectivity provides greater protection against mistakes when shooting in difficult conditions such as at night and in backlit scenes. When shooting portraits, the anti-blink function is automatically activated, taking two shots and only recording the photo with wider open eyes. Notes: If a blink is detected in the Auto mode, a warning message is displayed after the shot. The anti-blink function does not activate when utilising flash illumination in the Backlight Portrait or Twilight Portrait setting: if blinking is detected, a warning message is displayed after the shot is taken, as in the Auto mode.

Intelligent AF (Auto Focus)

Auto Focus has become more intelligent, too. Cyber-shot automatically detects the changing situations such as subject brightness or zooming ratio, and activate the auto focus before users half-press the shutter button. This has enabled hi-speed and power-saving auto focus. The camera is always ready for taking sharp images.

Easy Shooting mode

The renowned Easy Shooting mode is now available while previewing. It simplifies camera settings to help ensure error-free operation and displays easy-to-understand instructions on the LCD in large script so that even beginners can easily handle advanced settings. This mode works together with Intelligent Scene Recognition* technology, which automatically selects optimum settings for each scene, to greatly simplify operation. Note: Settings may vary slightly from those used in Intelligent Auto mode.

Scene Selection

Convenient Scene Selection modes let users easily capture beautiful images of subjects in almost any type of setting. Users can simply select the suitable mode, depending on the scene, and the camera will automatically adjust the settings for optimal results.

[Enhanced Underwater mode]

This mode enables underwater scenes to be captured with vibrant, natural results. In addition to reducing blur, it now adjusts AF and white balance with greater accuracy. Moreover, 720p HD Movie underwater shooting is possible, further expanding the shooting possibilities.
